From New York Times bestselling author Helena Hunting comes a new romance about trading secrets, breaking the rules, and playing for keeps.
My name is Ryan Kingston, and I’m a rule follower. I’ve never been in a fistfight. I always obey the speed limit. I don’t get drunk, and I definitely don’t pick up random women at bars.
Except the night I found out that my whole existence has been a lie.
I got drunk. And picked up a stranger.
Her name was Queenie, and she was everything I’m not: reckless, impulsive, and chaotic. We did shots and traded secrets. And ended up naked at my place.
She left me a thank-you note in the morning and her panties as a parting gift. But no way to contact her.
Six weeks later I’m sitting in the first official team meeting of the season, and there she is. I neglected to mention that I’m the goalie for Seattle’s NHL team.
And Queenie? Turns out she’s the general manager’s daughter.
Who says the nice guy always finishes last? Well, then they haven’t met Kingston! Because this nice guy has the perfect naughty side when he isn’t driving at exactly the speed limit and wearing khakis and polos. When we met him in the first two books, he comes across as so straight-laced. He is the consummate gentleman always, but seeing him let loose is a slice of perfection Hunting couldn’t have written any better. In fact, Kingston and Queenie are like the next generation Alex and Violet (and those two are nothing short of messy perfection). They appear to be opposites, yet King and Queenie are matching puzzle pieces (just like our other favorite crazy couple).
What I find incredibly interesting about this story is how King and Queenie would balance each other out. Queenie made impulsive decisions in her past (and was still prone to them) and Kingston was the calm to her storm. And when Kingston came unraveled, Queenie was there. They rose to the occasion to be each other’s balancing point, even before they knew each other and on to when it was forbidden to be together.
While it made me sad to see Queenie be a slave to her past bad decisions, there was a great appreciation as she tried her best to move on from her past. And he was doing it for her, even if she couldn’t or didn’t want to see it. I think Kingston helped her realize she could be a better version of herself let go of past mistakes. And while Queenie had an incredible dad (who I really hope finds his own happily ever after), it was Kingston who was the missing chess piece in her game of life.
This is a perfect story for your next read. Don’t just add it to your TBR, dive right in. You can’t go wrong with Hunting!
