Genres: Psychological Suspense Romance
I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
I’m ALWAYS anxious when I start a book by Roya Carmen. When I expect the most angst, she delivers. With The Girl He Loves, the anxiety came on so many levels. What would Micha Lombardi learn when she discovers a photo of a young woman hidden in her house? Is she ready for the truth?
Let me tell you, Micha is a woman with a very active mind and a unique approach to life. Reading this book was an experience, as I expected, one that created intrigue and suspense, and it was too far into the story before I realized how off the rails Micha’s mind and heart could go. She throws caution to the wind and is unlike any other character I’ve read.
I can’t count how many times my jaw dropped at her approach to unearthing the truth. As the story progresses, and Micha allows herself to be so ensconced on the lives of Ava and her family, it’s not long before it’s out of control and she is the main reason her life seems to go sideways.
To me, it appears that Roya Carmen created a new genre: “Psychological Romance Suspense”, and it is so fitting to her writing and the story. At times it was incredibly hard to be in Micha’s head, yet I loved it. The scary thing is that the story appears to be ripped from the headlines. Obsession is easy to understand, but her actions and straight-up crazy. She creates her own chaos and the damage is almost too much (and again, I loved it).!
I’m so excited to be in on book one of this series and look forward to more of this from Roya Carmen. I’d recommend you read this when you have time to consume the story in one fell swoop!!
