Everyone says opposites attract. And they must be right, because there’s no logical reason why I’m so drawn to Colin Fitzgerald. I don’t usually go for tattoo-covered, video-gaming, hockey-playing nerd-jocks who think I’m flighty and superficial. His narrow view of me is the first strike against him. It doesn’t help that he’s buddy-buddy with my brother.

And that his best friend has a crush on me.

And that I just moved in with them.

Oh, did I not mention we’re roommates?

I suppose it doesn’t matter. Fitzy has made it clear he’s not interested in me, even though the sparks between us are liable to burn our house down. I’m not the kind of girl who chases after a man, though, and I’m not about to start. I’ve got my hands full dealing with a new school, a sleazy professor, and an uncertain future. So if my sexy brooding roomie wises up and realizes what he’s missing?

He knows where to find me.

The Chase (Briar U, #1)The Chase by Elle Kennedy
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Oh Elle Kennedy, you slayer of hearts and stealer of sleep. I started this at about 9pm and read it clear through to the end, finishing it someone near 2am. The Chase is everything a college hockey romance should be. Equal parts angsty, sexy, funny and heartfelt. So, so heartfelt. How much of a “Chase” are we to expect when Summer transfers into her brothers alma mater, Briar University. Turns out there are multiple pursuits going on as she attracts the attention of not one but two of her brothers former roommates/teammates, both Colin “Fitzy” Fitzgerald and Hunter Davenport.

Elle creates characters with depth and substance. Fitzy is conditioned to swallow his feelings so when tested, he freezes up, which leads to all sorts of consequences. Summer is utterly endearing, aware that she causes commotion, but she’s such a good soul and the heart wants what the heart wants. My heart ached for them both as they work through some of the typical and non-typical dilemma’s that face them. The push and pull between them makes for a completely captivating read, hence my binge.

I’m so excited about this new series.  There’s SO much to love about Elle’s storytelling , all the fun details that create the essence of a character. The #NYA genre combined with the college hockey romance trope are true escapism for me. While The Chase is angsty and made me anxious at times, it was the perfect read to clear my head and heart.

5 of 5 stars!

Colin Fitzgerald. Fitz. Fitzy. The hockey computer nerd with tattoos who both stole my heart and made me want to throw him over my knee to spank him. Elle Kennedy, you killed me with this one. I knew in the synopsis that it was Summer who was doing the chasing, but holy hot damn…there were several things that got me. Let’s start with the depth and development of Summer. She’s not superficial. She’s more than a pretty face. I was constantly proud of who she was; the girl never shied away from embracing who she is. She has moments of vulnerability and only the select few are privy to it. Overall, she knocked my socks off. I either wanted to be her or be her new BFF – either works.

Fitzy. That brainy hunk has a surly side to him. However, he also forgot that opposites attract because they balance each other. Watching the balance come to fruition was AMAZEBALLS. And watching Fitz blossom into the man who always hid in the shadows or behind a computer screen made proud.

GAH…I love these guys and their stories. The writing is always beautifully developed and the characters so dynamic and interesting. You’ll never be disappointed by her. Elle Kennedy, can we be BFFs??!
