Hotel clerk Abby Medford has always enjoyed the quiet solitude of the night shift. The long, boring hours allow her time to study her law books. But when bad-boy-rocker Lucas Ford checks into the penthouse suite one night and demands Abby personally deliver his room service request, her formerly quiet nights are quickly filled with Lucas's erotic games. But as Abby soon learns, if she thinks she can indulge her innermost desires with Lucas without giving him her heart, she's dead wrong.
Ever since I’ve read Captain by Lauren Rowe this past summer, I’ve been a huge fan of her writing. It’s smart, down to earth, hilarious, and hot as hell. She constantly keeps me on my toes, never knowing where the story will take me next, and Misadventures on the Nightshift wasn’t any different.
At first glance, Abby Medford seems like your typical girl-next-door. Sexy, but not movie star glamorous, studious, hardworking, and putting herself through law school. But beneath the good girl image, Abby is hiding her inner vixen. A side of herself she repressed until Lucas Ford—the tortured musician—came into her life and quite literally set her free.
Misadventures on the Nightshift might have started out as a steamy romance between two lonely characters, but it turned into so much more. Through the pages, we see them develop and transform, become a better version of themselves. Neither Abby or Lucas are selfish in what they do for one another, their mutual respect and love enables them to help each other find the person they were truly meant to be.
The character development in this book was amazing. Both Abby and Lucas grow so much as people, separately as well as together, it’s what I love to see in my books. This isn’t just about their love, it’s also about the journey to find yourself and what makes you truly happy. And once you’re happy with yourself, find happiness with someone else.
Abby, as a character, is probably one of my favorite heroines I have ever read. She’s feisty, honest, funny, smart, and doesn’t take shit from anyone. And Lucas, he’s definitely swoon-worthy. The two of them together, make for explosive chemistry on the pages, that’s for sure.
Ultimately, if you’re in the mood for a smart and hilarious book that will have you enthralled from page one, Misadventures on the Nightshift is the book for you. Lauren Rowe knows how to write a story that will keep you engaged and laugh out loud. Her writing is impeccable and entertaining. I know I can’t get enough of it.
