Braden Montgomery is certain about three things: one, luck is for suckers; two, time spent outdoors is what keeps him sane; and, three, when it comes to sharing his bed, there’s only one female he’s willing to put up with—his Chesapeake Bay retriever, Charley. Braden’s constructed his life on these beliefs, and he’s quite content with the status quo.
But when a moment of bad luck lands Braden toe-to-toe with a blonde bombshell with her own television show, his stubbornly structured reality begins to unravel.
As for Amber Regan, her brand has been built on camo, cut-offs, and cleavage. With her own hunting show on the foremost sports channel and enough social media followers to garner her plenty of endorsement deals, Amber’s come a long way from the tomboy in a small Texas town she once was. Unfortunately, ratings are down and her contract for next season is in limbo, so she’s in desperate need of a reboot to save her show—and filming a rough and tough archery elk hunt in Colorado might be the way to do just that. Too bad the local game warden grunts more than he speaks, seems determined to despise her—and makes her heart race in all the most inconvenient ways.
Featuring Liora Blake’s signature “funny, endearing, and more than a little hot” (Library Journal) style, the third novel in the Grand Valley series features a rough-talking game warden going toe-to-toe with a TV star who unexpectedly turns his life upside down.
“So we’re both still alive.” Braden flicks his wrists to encourage me. “I think we can agree that’s a win.”
Ready for Wild is a decidedly sexy and humorous contribution to Liora’ Blakes Grand Valley series. Blake pairs Hotchkisses local Braden Montgomery with a Cable TV star Amber Regan and it doesn’t take long at all for the sparks between these two to practically start a forest fire (which would be very bad for Braden the Park Ranger, very bad indeed).
This relatively low drama story focuses on Amber’s fledgling career as queen of elk hunting. When she decides to take up short term residence in Hodgekiss it’s abundantly clear why. She and Braden share mutual respect for what they do, and lots of passion. Bradens snark and the way Amber goads him on had me simultaneously giggling and excited to see how Braden would react. Blake’s dialogue writing is stellar and does the service of showing the reader the characters’ personalities. The story is well paced and pulls the reader right in and the back and forth between Braden and Amber keeps the reader engaged.
I said this was relatively low in drama, but the two are challenged by distance and a change the direction of Amber’s life and career. With that there’s plenty to fret over. I also learned quite a bit about conservation and wildlife. But all in all this book simply made me smile and I found myself appreciating Ambers’ tenacity and Bradens’ alpha man moves. I promise you’ll be in love with by the end chapter 2 and you’ll be rooting for Amber to tame this slightly bad boy ( maybe that’s Braden taming Amber?) Either way, they are a well matched duo and made this a fun read. 4.5 stars and recommendation.

Liora Blake is a contemporary romance author living in Colorado.
When she isn’t writing, she’s likely baking cookies she shouldn’t eat, inventing elaborate excuses to avoid going for a run, or asking the nice barista to sell her another quad-shot Americano.
