I have three months to write the last book of my life. Three months to confess the details of that day, and how it changed everything for me.
My name is Helena Ross. I’ve written fifteen romance novels, ten of which have become international bestsellers. But this one isn't a romance, no Happily Ever After in place. This novel holds only the truth, which I have run away from for four years. The truth, which I have hidden from the police, from my loved ones, from the world.
This final book?
It's my confession.
This book is not a romance. It is contemporary fiction, but very suspenseful in nature. It is about a famous romance author and a dark secret she keeps.
I’ve long been a fan of Alessandra Torre. I know her as a romance writer. With the release of The Ghostwriter she has displayed a stunning level of creative diversity. She’s delivered one of the most clever suspense stories that I’ve read. I’m a binge reader so it’s not a stretch for me to read a book in one sitting. But with the The Ghostwriter, this wasn’t an option for me. I had real life duties that got in the way, but I’m not sure I’ve ever been clamored more to get back to a book.
The genius in this story is the main character, Helena Ross. She’s obsessive and persnickety, not altogether very likable, but she’s a character that is easy to feel compassion for. When we meet her she’s just been delivered news of her immanent death, and she’s finally ready to expose a secret, to tell a story that no one but her knows, to expose the bitter truth of her marriage, her role as a wife and as a mother.
The story is vetted out to us through her diary like entries, but she doesn’t have enough time to tell the tale. What’s more is she needs a confessor and who better to do this to then with a carefully chosen ghostwriter. What follows is the unlikely friendship that provides her with a sense of belonging she’s never known. As time passes, and the end draws near, she’s faced with reckoning and absolution.
The Ghostwriter is this years’ most surprising release and certainly Alessandra Torre has a lot to be proud of. A #MustRead and 5 ++ Stars recommendation!
