I adored BL Berry’s An Unforgivable Love Story. It was unique and surprised me wit the depth of emotion that the characters achieved. The same happened with Birthquake. By name only I thought this would be a purely humorous romantic comedy, but it turned into so much more.
Birthquake follows the new relationship of a couple, Jeff and Henley, through their first 2 years-ish as a couple; falling in love and “doing things” out of order. It’s refreshingly real and mostly reflects a young women maturing into something so much more than she could have expected. When Henley and Jeff meet we are dropped into the making of a great connection. Two people entering a relationship that is devoid of games, and yet they experience all the doubts a young, low drama couple experience. I loved the story for just being that, normal.
Berry’s writing is smart and thoughtful. We find Henley and Jeff surrounded by great friends and some crazy family, and it balances their characters. Part of e completely identifies with them as a couple, yet I won’t pretend to have experienced at that they go through. But I have no trouble imaging what they feel and i can’t recommend this enough. If you are looking for a thoughtful and considerate love story this is it. I loved joining in on Henley and Jeff’s journey and couldn’t have been happier with the outcome.
