Welcome to the mysterious world of the rich and the damned in this gritty, modern day fairy tale. Two star-crossed lovers will either find their destiny or meet their fate in a world where demons come in the form of familiar faces and pawns aren’t just players, but deadly.

She was my destiny.

I was her downfall.

We were a match made in hell.

But when we were together, that hell was pure heaven.

The moment I laid eyes on her, I knew she would pay the price for my sins. I wasn’t much older than she was, but old enough to know better. Old enough to know she would be good for me and I was bad for her. But I pursued her anyway. Back then I had hope that maybe she could change my future.

Maybe together we could change our fate . . .

Savage (The Kingwood Duet, #1)Savage by S.L. Scott
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I’ll read anything and everything that SL Scott writes. She’s truly one of my favorites and I’m always impressed by the range in her storytelling. Lately it seems she’s concentrating on romances built on action and mystery, which she excels in. With Savage, the mix of steam, secrets and suspense combined with the drama of the Kingwood dynasty makes for a fast paced and intense read. Even with their young ages, Alexander King and Sara Jane Grayson don’t have a simple relationship and it’s made more complex by Alexander’s need for the truth.

This book opens with one hot, hot, hot scene that captures the readers’ attention and simply doesn’t let go. As the story unfolds, we hear from both of their perspectives. We also learn about the development of their relationship as they reflect on key moments, this is a story telling method that Scott is well honed in. We quickly get some of the backstory of how Alexander and Sarah Jane came to be. There’s a hint of an illicit nature to Alexander and Sarah Jane but mostly what the reader feels is the intensity of their connection. And oh what a connection it is!!

This is a fast paced read and I couldn’t read it quickly enough. the anticipating of finding out “who” King is and “what” King does kept me completely captivated. I couldn’t imagine what motivated him, and though he clearly believes Sara Jane is his soulmate, he pushes her limits a few times. I had to remind myself that they were young and facing extraordinary circumstances.

Scott does a stellar job building the suspense. Just when you think things are out of control, Sara Jane and Alexanders’ bond is tried and tested. They just don’t get many breaks and we are left with a bit of an anxiety inducing cliffhanger. I’m looking forward to August 13th when we can find out if the savage that is Alexander can transform into the savior that Sara Jane needs him to be. 5 Stars and recommendation.
