Heated Sweets (A Taste of Love Series #3)
Author: A.M. Willard
Cover Design: MadHat Books
Do you believe someone can change your whole perspective on life? I didn’t, but I do now…
It all happens when I meet my sexy neighbor, Evan Taylor.
My name’s Francesca, better known as Frankie, and I’ve been hiding behind my camera for years. It’s what I know and love- not to mention the best way to disguise myself. It’s easy to make life look perfect from this side, even when yours is in shambles. My chronic illness is my biggest insecurity, and what I not only hide from myself, but from the world. Good thing I have a group of friends who can supply me with massive overloads of cupcakes, or life would totally stink.
Brody’s always been my crutch, but I knew deep down that he wouldn’t be the one I’d end up with. We just had to find a way to let the past go as we moved forward with our search of happiness. He’ll always be my hero, but sometimes in life you need more than a cape.
Evan Taylor is exciting, and doesn’t expect me to give him the world. He accepts me for who I am with no additional pressure. Evan’s also the one who can offer me the one thing I think I can’t give him – life. With the passion and desire that we hold for each other–it might be enough to win in the end and come out from behind the camera.
**4 stars **
The author shares in her foreword how she worked up to Frankie’s story. After reading books 1 and 2, I can see why she would say this. It’s a personal voyage and a lot of broken hearts. While we got some hints in the first two volumes in the series on what makes Frankie tick, we got all our answers this go around. Nope, won’t spill all the beans…you’ll have to read the book.
So, let’s talk a bit about Frankie. She’s a little sad, a little confused, and a lot brokenhearted. Seriously, this book killed me just a little bit in so many ways. Willard takes you on an emotional roller coaster in this book. I don’t know if I’m happy with the way things went, but what I can say is things work out the way they’re supposed to. Willard perfectly demonstrates this in her story. You have to be open to life and its twists and turns in order to find your true path.
It’s easy to see how Willard poured bits of her soul into this story, which only made it resonate with purity and beautiful clarity. Well done!

Other Books in the Series
In this book, we jump right into the lives of these sweets-loving ladies. I laughed so much at Morgan’s forbidden love affair with chocolate, her meet-cute with Jayden, and just plain getting to know the ladies. Seriously, Willard writes some amazing men – I loved every scene when we got a glimpse of Jayden.
I loved the flow and cadence of the story as we watch Morgan figure out how to start over when everything she had planned for (but did she really want?) comes unraveled. What made the story fantastic is the levity laced with the serious undertone of how this woman was able to pull herself up by sheer will and friendship. She’s a strong woman who wasn’t afraid to believe in her own dreams and herself. I like that in a character – strength and sense of self.
The book does have a bit of a vignette feel at times as it does jump to the other friends as a means of setting up their stories in future books. If you have questions, I promise they’ll be answered later in the series.
It’s a fun, quick read perfect for a lazy day!

The second book in the series is about Zara and Hatcher. I had a harder time with this book. Though I utterly loved Hatcher (still do, he’s a gem), I had a harder time connecting with Zara. Yes, she’s facing a lot of changes in her life all at once, but her stubbornness made me want to give her a swift kick in the butt. Because despite all of her freak outs and snarkiness, Hatcher remained the ever-amazing man we all love.
Though I did enjoy when Zara finally put on her big girl panties, this book felt more like it should be a novella. The story told in books one and three felt more complete and this felt like a catch-up to get us to Frankie’s story.
What I did like about the story is the continued and unwavering relationship between the ladies. They really harken to a Sex in the City-like dynamic, but are different enough that they don’t feel like a copycat version. The writing is consistent from book 1 and we do get some answers that were hinted at in book 1.
Not my favorite book in the series, but definitely worth reading.
