From, Lauren Rowe, the USA Today and International bestselling author of The Club Series and Ball Peen Hammer comes a sexy standalone romance: Captain.
It wasn’t the way this kind of story was supposed to go . . .Insta-love isn’t supposed to turn into insta-hate.
But that’s exactly what happened when the hot-as-hell dreamboat I met in a bar turned out to be a lying, cheating scumbag-player-douche looking for nothing but a little side action. Jerk.
And he has the nerve to call me a liar and a “sociopath”? Assh*le.
And now, three months later, through a mind-blowing series of events I couldn’t have predicted in a million years, it turns out my boss is marrying his sister in Hawaii and I’ve got to play nice with him for an entire freaking week.
Okay, sure, I’ll put on a happy face this week and act like I’ve never even met the jerk before--did I mention his sister is marrying my boss?--but that doesn’t mean I’ll like it. And it certainly doesn’t mean I’ll stop secretly hating the cocky bastard’s guts.
Because I do.I hate him. I really do.
I just wish my brain would explain the situation to my body . . . because every time he flashes that panty-melting smile at me, it takes all my self-restraint not to jump the bastard’s hot-as-f*ck bones.
I can’t believe I waited this long to pop my Lauren Rowe cherry, but I don’t think there could have been a better book to do it with. I absolutely adored Captain!
As I said, I haven’t read any of the other book, but this didn’t lessen my enjoyment of this book in any way. I fell in love with Ryan and Tessa from page one and was rooting for them until the last page. While their chemistry will scorch you through the pages, their witty banter and hilarious interactions will also have you laugh out loud. This book is the perfect combination of hilariously embarrassing situations and super sexy and hot interactions between Ryan and Tessa.
Ryan and Tessa are such entertaining characters; I couldn’t get enough of them. Some situations they end up in, like the big misunderstanding, I have to admit didn’t pan out the way I expected them to, which is what I love about this book. It grabs you by the heart, squeezes every now and then just right, and then leads you into uncharred territory.
And Ryan, holy smokes! He’s one of the best heroes I have read in a while. He’s not just successful and hot, but also considerate, sweet, swoon worthy—the type you just can’t help but fall in love with. Sure, he can be a jerk, and he is in the beginning when he misread a situation. I would have loved to kick his ass in the beginning, but such is the beauty of novels you end up loving—they make you feel.
While the writing is simple, I loved it. It’s not trying to be anything other than what it is—a beautiful story about two people falling in love. It’s not trying too hard, which is something I hate in books. Sometimes, less is more—not just when it comes to plot, but also writing. Captain definitely hit my sweet spot in that regard.
All the characters are very well-established, three-dimensional, and so relatable you can’t help but love them all. Not just Ryan and Tessa, but each and every side character made this book the great thing that it is. It’s an amazing combination of great writing, amazing storytelling, and hilarious characters.
I can’t recommend this book enough! If you are in need of a read that will make you laugh out loud, swoon over the hero and be proud of our strong heroine, you cannot go wrong with Captain. I enjoyed the ride—arms in the air, screaming—and I can’t wait to do it again.
