Ethan is the boy who climbed into my bedroom every night.
He's everything I love.
Laced with everything I despise.
He's every happy memory.
And every shattered dream.
He's my everything.
But he broke every part of me.
I'm supposed to hate him.
But I can't.
I don't know how.
Callie Anderson’s Broken Dreams is a story about second chances in it’s many forms. For Leslie Sutton, the path of her life has led her home to Arizona, where she has the chance to rebuild the relationship she has with her parents, and for do-overs with the one man she’s always loved, one she lost many years before.
Ethan Prescott is Leslie’s first love. She can feel the connection with Ethan is just as powerfully as when they were teenagers, falling in love and planning a life together. There’s a lot of drama, between Ethan’s upbringing and the assumptions Leslie makes when she returns. True to Callie’s storytelling, this is an emotional read that left me anxious. Leslie is a very likable character and she does a fairly good job communicating openly, which keeps some of the frustration I’ve felt with her heroines in her others books.
This was an enjoyable read, with all around likable characters, and a plot that is well paced. Anderson balances past and present, building the backstory, setting up the intensity of Leslie’s homecoming and just what she risks and the reward she stands to gain. Another great read from Callie Anderson.
