I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Maya Goodwin doesn't believe in holding back. Ever. As a cop, she never hesitated to throw herself into harm's way to save someone. Even after an injury on the job forces her to retire, she's not afraid to keep risking it all to get the life she wants. With a new career teaching martial arts to kids already underway, she's looking forward to the future - and taking a chance on the unbelievably hot Dr. Alex Nolan.
Maya - daring and spontaneous - is the exact opposite of what Alex always thought he wanted. But when a nine-year-old daughter he never knew existed shows up on his doorstep, Maya is the one who helps them hold it together. With love on the line, will the guy who's always played it safe be willing to take the biggest risk of all?
I am absolutely in love with this series. The opposites attract trope is one of my favorites and the “gaming ” element of the story is a world foreign to me so it’s a lot of fun to learn about. The central character in Forever mine is Maya Goodwin, all around super chick who is smart, brave and full of life. Like book 1, the story centers on family dynamics and the hero complex. In this case, we get to know Dr. Alex “Wonderful” Nolan who has only recently learned he has a 10 year old daughter. It’s through his need to get to know his daughter Charli that brings he and Maya together.
Alex and Maya have that instant attraction thing going on and their story is a fabulous one! Maya teaches Alex so much about the comic community and gives Alex the opportunity to strengthen the relationship he is building with his daughter Charli. Which is the most endearing part of the story. The lengths he will go to to learn more about her interest is just *SIGH*, adorable.
“Alex had never been more nervous about a date in his life.
This girl meant everything to him. He wanted to impress her, ensure she had a great time, and guarantee that she’d want to go out again. She was beautiful and smart and funny and completely fascinating to him . But he didn’t want to come on too strong. He also didn’t want to make small talk. They were beyond that. But he wasn’t sure what to talk about without a bo staff in hand or a Galactic Renegades reference handy. Or her mother in the room.”
Meeting Maya is serendipitous, fate, kismet. All those cosmic forces at work. This is what really drives the plot – Alex and Maya connecting and taking the necessary risks. Nicholas achieves this through flirtatious and lively banter and keeps the progression of Alex and Maya ‘s relationship steady. But even as easy as they seem to find themselves in each others lives there are still some challenges, mostly surrounding assumptions and communication.
There’s a couple of key messages about what a hero is made of, how they are characterized and I really like it when a book made me consider the human spirit in a new way. I found it very hard to put away for the night and I even started reading it again early 9 like 5:30 am early) the next morning. 4.5 Stars and recommendation!

Erin Nicholas is the author of sexy contemporary romances. Her stories have been described as toe-curling, enchanting, steamy and fun. She loves to write about reluctant heroes, imperfect heroines and happily ever afters. She lives in the Midwest with her husband who only wants to read the sex scenes in her books, her kids who will never read the sex scenes in her books, and family and friends who say they’re shocked by the sex scenes in her books (yeah, right!).
