From New York Times bestselling author, Kristen Ashley, comes the long-awaited story of Daisy and Marcus, Rock Chick Reawakening. A prequel to KristenÔÇÖs Rock Chick series, Rock Chick Reawakening shares the tale of the devastating event that nearly broke Daisy, an event that set Marcus SloaneÔÇöone of DenverÔÇÖs most respected businessmen and one of the Denver undergroundÔÇÖs most feared crime bossesÔÇöinto finally making his move to win the heart of the woman who stole his.
ÔÇ£I handle you with care. IÔÇÖll always handle you with care.ÔÇØ
We all have them, our favorite authorsÔÇöour unicornsÔÇöwho we know will make our live a whole lot better for a time because we can escape reality and dive into a different worldÔÇöforget for a while. Kristen Ashley is one of those authors for me. Every time I need a time-out I read one of her booksÔÇöI reread them so many times I lost countÔÇöand they never disappoint. I remember learning we are lucky enough to get Daisy and MarcusÔÇÖ story was one of the best days I had in a long while.
ÔÇ£You donÔÇÖt know what kind of girl I am.ÔÇØ
ÔÇ£I know precisely what kind of woman you are, Daisy. And if you donÔÇÖt understand it, then itÔÇÖll be up to me to show it to you.ÔÇØ
Having met both Daisy and Marcus in the previous Rock Chick books, we all know mostly what happened to Daisy and the circumstances on how they get together. And yet, receiving the gift of learning about their past and courtship was precious. Something every fan of the ÔÇ£Rock Chick SeriesÔÇØ will treasure forever.
ÔÇ£He deserved better. Much, much better than me.ÔÇØ
What happened to Daisy was horrendous, and while the aftermath was painful, it was also beautiful. And what made it beautiful was Marcus. His gentle, sweet, understanding, and above all loving demeanor toward Daisy is what makes this book so special. Yes, Marcus is the Alpha male we come to expect of a KA book, but in this situation he was so much moreÔÇöhe was just what Daisy didn’t know she needed. It takes a lot of character to put aside what you want in order to give the other person what they need, even if it kills you do to so.
ÔÇ£I built my castles to they can keep me safe.ÔÇØ
ÔÇ£YouÔÇÖre safe now.ÔÇØ
ÔÇ£IÔÇÖve never been safe.ÔÇØ
And Daisy, my heart broke for herÔÇörepeatedly. Yet, I loved to see her rise again and become a stronger individual despite the shit life threw at her. SheÔÇÖs like a phoenix rising from the ashes after what happened to her. Staying true to the Daisy weÔÇÖve come to adore over the years.
ÔÇ£IÔÇÖve been waiting thirty-five years for you to come into my life, Daisy.ÔÇØ
Rock Chick Reawakening was the perfect, yet most bittersweet, ending to one of my all-time favorite series I have come across in recent years. This book is pure KA magic with its strong heroine, sweet and understanding alpha, and a story line which keeps you intrigued as well as riveted to the love between the two characters. A love I’m sure we all┬áwish for in our own lives.
ÔÇ£Your life starts now,ÔÇØ he said all gentle and still in my ear. ÔÇ£The one youÔÇÖre meant to be leading. The one youÔÇÖve always deserved. I thought it best to mark that occasion in a way youÔÇÖd never forget. ÔÇ£
This book is utter perfection. There is not one thing I can think of I didnÔÇÖt loveÔÇöwell maybe the fact that it was too shortÔÇöbut otherwise, itÔÇÖs true Kristen Ashley excellence.
IÔÇÖm sad to see this series come to a close, but each and every one of these characters will stay will me for the rest of my life, linked to fond memories IÔÇÖll be smiling about every time I see one of the titles in my library. WeÔÇÖll always be able to visit Indie and Ally pulling some crazy stunt with Lee going crazy because of it. WeÔÇÖll always be able to visit Tod and Stevie, laugh at their antics and wish we had a drag queen bff to share shoes with. Or laugh hysterically at RoxieÔÇÖs parents, being thankful our own arenÔÇÖt as bonkers as Trish and Herb.
Every Kristen Ashley book is a gift which keeps giving because weÔÇÖll never lose the characters, which is the beauty of books like these.
~Review by Anja
Obviously, IÔÇÖd decided to go out with Marcus.
He wanted to convince me we were meant to be together, heÔÇÖd been kind enough to me heÔÇÖd earned that shot.
But he was going to know what he was getting.
To this end, I was wearing my leopard print (or one of them). A skintight mini-dress that only went down to there. The back was scooped all the way out and the front was scooped to maximum cleavage potential (and with the maximums of my cleavage, this might be awe-inspiring to some; heck, it was my cleavage and it was still that to me).
I was going to pair this with my sky-high platform sandals with the black patent across the balls of my feet, open toes to show off the new fire-engine-red pedicure IÔÇÖd given myself (along with the same in a manicure, but on my long talons, IÔÇÖd added a curve of amber rhinestones all along one side of the outer edge of each ring finger). The platform and heel of the shoes were covered in leopard.
My hair was even more sky-high than my platforms. Teased to mammoth proportions at the top and sides, IÔÇÖd smoothed that back and then curled the hell out of the rest of my tresses so they fell in soft, defined swirls from a high-rise at the crown all the way down my back (the bangs were blown out straight and brushing my forehead).
My makeup was how IÔÇÖd do it if I was stripping, which was how IÔÇÖd do it when I wasnÔÇÖt stripping. My eyes werenÔÇÖt smoky. They were smoke. My skin bronzed. The sides of my nose and under my cheekbones shaded. My cheeks a dewy tangerine. My lips a nude-y, super-glossed, glittering peach.
I had in bronze chandelier earrings that nearly swept my shoulders and were liberally dosed with black and amber beads. A bronze statement necklace practically covered my upper chest and I had so many dangly bracelets on, if Marcus got through the night without the noise of them tinkling driving him to murder me, heÔÇÖd definitely pass an important test.
A Message from Kristen:
IÔÇÖm beside myself with glee that this prequel to my Rock Chick series has been unleashed! There was some time when I never thought IÔÇÖd write it. When I couldnÔÇÖt be in that terrible place with Daisy. But IÔÇÖm oh-so glad that she called to me, demanding her story be told so she could give it to me and now I can give it to you! I loved every moment spent with Daisy and Marcus. And I hope you do too!
