It’s love, plain and simple. I am in love with this story and C.P. Smiths new Wallflowers series. This book makes me so happy. Now I have to point out that one thing that made me absolutely giddy early on was the mention of Stephanie Lauren’s Cynster family series and Devil and Honoria. I spent months if not a full year reading and re-reading Ms. Laurens’ stories and being obsessed with her view of Regency royalty. Giddiness at this reference aside, my first impressions of Calla Lilly left me with no question that I would love this heroine. Her southern charm shines brightly and her slightly quirky and sassy nature was a clear indicator this was going to be a fun read.
And it is. Wallflowers: Three of a Kind is a sweet, sexy, funny and delightful read. Growing up an Armstrong in Savannah Georgia meant Calla had to fight hard to do and be who she wanted to be. She’s one of those heroines that will make you proud. Sure she has a few notable traits of a wallflower, but make no mistake about Calla, she’s braver then she ever lets on. And oh lordy, I love her choice of words; heebie jeebies, willy nilly, twiddle and my personal favorite ninny (this one happens to be a nickname of mine used by a nephew who couldn’t pronounce a “c”or a “d” ). This she does all in an effort to not curse. See, Calla is so utterly charming.
Where Laurens’ Devil Cynster is a gentlemen and a “notorious rake”, Smith gives us Devin, a self contained and highly focused alpha male. Devin may be notorious but he’s most definitely not a rake. He just looks like one. Devin has never been inspired to claim a woman, so when he decides to do just that he shows no hesitancy. Just like Devil. Like the inspiring couple, Calla and Devin work together to solve a mystery and through this, Devin exercises his alpha tendencies and laughs in the face of Calla’s bully of a grandfather. He’s the perfect balance of a sweet & sexy and manages to sweep Calla off her feet.
The characters that round of the story are Poppy and Sienna, Calla’s new set of friends who make up the Wallflowers. Calla’s aunts Eunice and Bernice bring much to the story line and Calla’s back story. The support that all of these women provide each other is enviable and born of true and heartfelt love. Wallflowers: three of a Kind is a wonderful start to a new suspense romance series that showcases witty dialogue, sexual tension, and old fashioned alpha male hotness. 5 #BrickbyBrick Stars and recommendation!
