I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

She likes it quick and dirty.

I like orders and rules.

She hates small talk.

I hate to share.

SheÔÇÖs an open book.

IÔÇÖm a closed dresser drawer.

She rides a Harley.

And that drives me fÔÇÖing nuts.

Annalyse and I have both lived in our own personal hells for half a decade. SheÔÇÖs learned to love the warmth, and IÔÇÖm still consumed. But my new neighbor is stoking more than my libido these days. We agreed on only pleasure. But she changed the rules.

And now IÔÇÖm not even sure what they are.

Maybe thereÔÇÖs a reason she found me that night, maybe thereÔÇÖs a reason I canÔÇÖt stop thinking about her, maybe thereÔÇÖs a reason for the pain. Maybe not.

We all look for reasons in life. Reasons for death, love, pain. Why one thing happens and not another? ItÔÇÖs human nature. WeÔÇÖve been looking for the meaning of life since the beginning of time. But maybe the reason for all of it ÔÇö life, love, loss, heartache ÔÇö is the curvy brunette living next door.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Prescott Lane is one of those authors where I don’t need to know a thing about the book before I start reading it. ┬áShe has managed to surprise me with every story and I just know I’m going to love it. With The Reason For Me, she gives us two complex characters stuck in various states of grief. Annalyse and Holt are brought together by circumstance and drawn closer to each other by desire and unknowingly their secrets.

One of the main things I love about this story is how it’s delivered to us. Annalyses’ backstory is shared through her blog postings and she directs Holt to certain days, giving him clues as to the state of her heart and mind. We also get both of their perspectives which builds on the mystery of why they are in these sad states of limbo.

Annalyse won my sympathy from the very beginning and although we don’t know exactly what happened to her on Halloween 5 years earlier, we know she is lonely and tortured. Holt is a bigger mystery. I really didn’t care much for him at first. He’s bossy and while that can be pretty hot, it’s simply too early into their relationship. But I love a hero that is redeemed and the more we got to know about Holt, the more I liked him. They do have great chemistry and Prescott Lane is a master at creating this atmosphere on the page. He proves himself to be worthy, but his secret might just ruin any chance they might. His backstory is tragic but Holt is almost too slow to trust her.

The entire situation is wrought with peril. The back and forth of what they are to each other, the slow sharing of their pasts and the recognition that this is truly the first time either of them might have a chance to heal. The Reason For Me is an intense and emotional read with the perfect balance of romance and heartache and is another 5 star read from Prescott Lane!

ÔÇ£You should have on a life jacket.ÔÇØ ┬á

ÔÇ£When I kayak or when I ride my motorcycle?ÔÇØ I ask.

He tries not to smile, but he does. ┬áÔÇ£Pissed, huh?ÔÇØ

ÔÇ£Observant, arenÔÇÖt you?ÔÇØ

ÔÇ£Motorcyclists are twenty-five percent more likely to die and five times more likely to be injured than a passenger in a car,ÔÇØ he says.

ÔÇ£You looked that up just to lecture me, didnÔÇÖt you?ÔÇØ

ÔÇ£Not the point,ÔÇØ he says. ┬áÔÇ£No more motorcycle.ÔÇØ

Did he really think he could go all alpha male on me? ┬áUsually, it would be hot as all-get-out to see a man in control, dominant, but right now alpha equals asshole! ┬á┬áNote to self ÔÇö I should do a blog post on that. ┬áWhere have all the good alphas gone? ┬áÔÇ£Who do you think you are?ÔÇØ I say, walking away. ┬áÔÇ£YouÔÇÖre not my husband or my father. ┬áCome to think of it, I wouldnÔÇÖt let my father or husband order me around like this.ÔÇØ

His fingers lightly touch my elbow. ┬áIt isnÔÇÖt a grab. ┬áI barely feel it, and as quickly as he touched me, itÔÇÖs over. ┬áÔÇ£IÔÇÖm a doctor. ┬áIÔÇÖve seen what . . .ÔÇØ

ÔÇ£YouÔÇÖre a gynecologist! ┬áYouÔÇÖve seen what a motorcycle can do to a vagina?ÔÇØ

Oh God, IÔÇÖm in trouble. ┬áHeÔÇÖs got the dirtiest look in his eye. ┬áÔÇ£IÔÇÖd imagine the vibration would feel pretty damn good.ÔÇØ

I canÔÇÖt help it and bust out laughing. ┬áÔÇ£You are impossible.ÔÇØ

ÔÇ£And itÔÇÖs the law to carry a life vest for every person in a kayak,ÔÇØ he says.

I roll my eyes. ┬áÔÇ£You like rules.ÔÇØ

ÔÇ£I like order.ÔÇØ

ÔÇ£Ordering people around,ÔÇØ I say.

ÔÇ£Only certain people,ÔÇØ he says.

DonÔÇÖt ask me why, but the thought of him ÔÇ£orderingÔÇØ me around made my legs clench together, or maybe it was the mention of vibrations. ┬áEither way, the idea of him taking control of my body didnÔÇÖt sound bad to me at all. ┬áIt would be nice to not think so damn much all the time and just feel something good for a change.
