Having it all is a fantasy, right?
Chloe Browne knows all about fantasy. Fantasy is her job.
And sheÔÇÖs very, very good at what she does.
As director of design for the O Spa chain, a sophisticated womenÔÇÖs club that is trending its way into being the Next Big Thing, ChloeÔÇÖs ready to take on the world.
One baby at a time.
Her home studyÔÇÖs done, and sheÔÇÖs about to adopt, a thirty-something single mother by choice. Who needs to put her life on hold for the right guy when the right baby is waiting for her?
Besides, talk about fantasy.
The right guy?
And then in walks Nick Grafton, with those commanding sapphire eyes and wavy blonde hair and a sophisticated mouth that only smiles for her.
But the last thing Nick wants is to start fresh with a new baby as his college-age kids fly the coop. A single father for more than fifteen years after his wife walked out on her family, Nick finally tastes freedom.
But he likes the taste of Chloe more.
Our Options Have Changed is a standalone contemporary romance, the first in the On Hold series by New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Julia Kent and journalist-turned-fiction-writer Elisa Reed.
Our Options have Changed is one smart, sexy & captivating read. Our main characters, Chloe & Nick, are both charming and endearing and I couldnÔÇÖt get enough of them. With this story, co-authors Julia Kent and Elisa Reed give us a heartwarming and delightful read. I was intrigued with the idea of the slightly older man, the empty-nester and the potential conflict with the fact that ChloeÔÇÖs adoption of a baby is on the near horizon. Just what would it take to make this man okay with almost starting over.
When the story opens, Chloe experiences a shocking betrayal leading to a new change in her relationship status. Into her life comes Nick Grafton. This man sees something he wants and their mutual attraction quickly puts them together. The early interactions, their flirtations, are fabulous. You can really feel pull between them. What I really loved is that these two do treat each other respectfully and as adults. Nick is an absolute dreamboat. HeÔÇÖs accomplished & professionally perfect for Chloe. And his experienced as a parent makes up for the gap that Chloe has with babies so personally, heÔÇÖs perfect for Chloe as well. He just seems to have an incredible capacity to love making him that elusive catch.
The story is filled out with ChloeÔÇÖs friends Henry and Jemma, and Nick’s kids Amelie, Elodie and Jean-Marc, all driving various twists and some hilarious moments. This is balanced with a catty, conniving ex-wife and ChloeÔÇÖs narcissistic mother. But the shining light and most important secondary characters is Holliday. The way Nick embraces Holly and jumps in to take care of her will melt you.
ThereÔÇÖs a little drama, some of it funny, some of it causing a discord, but in general itÔÇÖs a ÔÇ£feel greatÔÇØ romance. This is the first Julia Kent book that IÔÇÖve read. It appears her partnership with Eliza Reed is magical and I look forward to reading more from them. 5 Stars and recommendation.
