Elusive charmer Cash Walker is a tough-as-nails cowboy, except when it comes to the shy woman who shows up with a pretty smile, a wounded spirit, and a goat riding shotgun in her passenger seat.
Recently divorced from an abusive husband, Emma Frank has come home to Broken Falls, Montana. Lost, alone, and unable to escape the bullying tactics of her ex-brothers-in-law, she finds solace and friendship at the Tucked Away farm and with the handsome cowboy who believes in her and who helps her find her own courage.
There's a darkness in Cash's past that's kept him from ever letting anyone get too close, but he can't seem to stay away from Emma, who seems to be the one to finally break through his tough exterior and steal this cowboy's heart.
I couldnÔÇÖt tell you the last time a read a cowboy romance book, but I can tell you Jennie Marts Stolen Away wonÔÇÖt soon leave my mind. Centered in Broken Falls,
Montana, local tortured soul and alpha cowboy Cash Walker finds himself in the position being the hero to a young woman who hasnÔÇÖt had the best luck in life of late. In fact, the best thing that has happened to her is her divorce. The storyline is built on Emma FrankÔÇÖs divorce and Cash following his instinct with her, and those good manners that his momma instilled in him.
As heroines go, Emma won me over immediately and seeing her transformation is heartwarming. Her story as the shy local girl who found her voice and finally divorced her abusing husband is uplifting. But life is never that easy for Emma. Her past just wonÔÇÖt stay in the past. This adversity drives much of the plot and frankly left me filled with dread. There’s an undercurrent of dread that hangs over all the beautiful and wonderful things that Emma is experiencing for maybe the first time. She is finally experiencing a sense of belonging, the giddiness of a crush that might become something more, and the simple joy of wanting to TRY to learn something new. I felt very anxious as Emma is terrorized by her ex-brother-in-laws and her attempts to stand up to them seem to put her at more risk. This seems to escalate quickly but just when you think Emma might be safe…
But EmmaÔÇÖs past is not that only thing in the way. Cash carries a dark secret, one that hinders his future and any chances of a relationship. Cash feels undeserving but try as he might, he canÔÇÖt stay away from Emma. Its comical the way he attempts to erect a wall between them and to keep her in the friend zone. Emma is girl that could use some compassion and to be rescued, something that matches up perfectly with CashÔÇÖs alpha tendencies. The tension that builds between Emma and Cash leads up to some steamy moments and very passionate affection.
This is the first book by Jennie Marts that IÔÇÖve read. I love the community sheÔÇÖs built in Broken Falls and IÔÇÖll now need to go back and read books one and two in the series. This small town is filled with quirky characters that build their families from friends and soulful connections filled with hope. Stolen Away is a great fast paced read and perfect if you are looking for a reluctant hero and a sweet heroine. 4 Stars and recommendation!
