Seasick. ThatÔÇÖs how Jessie Todd feels when her best friend and boss, Finn OÔÇÖDonnell, tells her that the Buoys will be featured on a popular fishing programÔÇöwhich just so happens to be hosted by a guy she used to date. SheÔÇÖs still friendly with her ex, but her new feelings for Finn are making things . . . complicated. His life is out on the sea, and though Jessie works at the resort, her paralyzing phobia of water keeps her on land, where sheÔÇÖs safe. To take a shot with Finn, sheÔÇÖll need to face her fearsÔÇöand her innermost desiresÔÇöhead-on.
Finn has been nursing a crush on Jess for a long time, so when she suddenly asks for swimming lessons, he dives right in. Holding her shaking hand as she steps into the ocean makes his heart swellÔÇödespite the sinking feeling that sheÔÇÖs just doing it to impress that smarmy TV host. Finn doesnÔÇÖt trust anyone with his bruised and battered heart, but heÔÇÖll be forced to lay it all on the line to keep Jess from being the one that got away.
The OÔÇÖDonnell brothers continue to cast their lines and find love at the BuoysÔÇötheir magnificent Pacific Northwest fishing havenÔÇöin this alluring romance from the bestselling author of Off the Hook.
It seems Laura Drewry has become a sure as I knew I was going to love this story. All my expectations were met and exceeded! The second in the Fishing for Trouble series we get to know baby brother Finn O’Donnell and the woman who truly runs The Buoys, Jessie Todd.
Finn is connected with the island as though it’s a part of his soul. He has the most to lose if this go tits up so making sure the The Buoys succeeds is highly important to him. He really couldn’t have known ho much his life would change when he suggest they try to land a spotlight on a fishing show. This sets in motion the friends to lovers story that is Lured In.
I think Finn may be the most tortured of the boys. I love being in his head as he tries to reason through his feelings and “new” reactions to Jessie. These feelings seem to be mutual, but unspoken. The newness of both Finn and JessieÔÇÖs feelings jeopardizes the stability of the business, but more so, the fine balance of their relationship. He is so conflicted about Jessie’s role in his life; she’s definitely part of the family, but it’s up to Finn to figure out what exactly that means.
Jessie is simply delightful! She’s never experienced that WOW feeling of falling in love and it’s one she so clearly deserves. But she’s not exactly in he position to meet anyone not involved in the business. It creates a quandary for her as she has a deep fear of water. Finn is exactly the person to help her work through that fear but what comes from this is a stellar love story. It’s wonderful watching these two figure out what they are to each other and Drewry lets this unfold in the most sweetest of all ways. They already have a very sound foundation so seeing how they learn to trust each other fully, sharing their darkest secrets, says so much about how they see each other as a part of their future.
DrewryÔÇÖs writing is so very fluid. I love that I can clearly visualize even the most mundane things ( the way tape twist on itself ) that keeps it light and comical. There’s a scene with Kate watching Jessie and Finn talking over each other that is described simply, but it creates a familiarity with the characters and made me feel like I was standing there. I’d book my trip to The Buoys if it were at all possible.
Lured In is simply one of the best friends to lovers story that I’ve read. Drewry captures just how simple and complex this often is. I’ve completely fallen in love with this family and their way of life. I am so looking forward to Ronan’s story and rounding out this fabulous trilogy. 5 Stars and recommendation!
