Shes good at achieving her goals
College senior Sabrina James has her whole future planned out: graduate from college, kick butt in law school, and land a high-paying job at a cutthroat firm. Her path to escaping her shameful past certainly doesnÔÇÖt include a gorgeous hockey player who believes in love at first sight. One night of sizzling heat and surprising tenderness is all sheÔÇÖs willing to give John Tucker, but sometimes, one night is all it takes for your entire life to change.
But the game just got a whole lot more complicated
Tucker believes being a team player is as important as being the star. On the ice, heÔÇÖs fine staying out of the spotlight, but when it comes to becoming a daddy at the age of twenty-two, he refuses to be a bench warmer. It doesnÔÇÖt hurt that the soon-to-be mother of his child is beautiful, whip-smart, and keeps him on his toes. The problem is, SabrinaÔÇÖs heart is locked up tight, and the fiery brunette is too stubborn to accept his help. If he wants a life with the woman of his dreams, heÔÇÖll have to convince her that some goals can only be made with an assist.
We’re back in #BuddyRead mode and we’re celebrating with a BR┬áof the 4th book in┬áElle Kennedy’s┬áOff-Campus┬áseries, The Goal.┬á We finally get to focus┬áon John Tucker, one of the sweetest┬á┬áboys┬áin the house. John Tucker is different from the other young men as his future doesn’t include a career in hockey. He’s got a plan to return to Texas after he graduates, but plans are meant to be changed.┬á Who knew┬áthat a look shared with Briar’s ice queen Sabrina across a crowded bar would have so much impact on his life…
How the story is delivered…
Cyndi:┬áI had forgotten how Elle presented this series. It’s a like a point in time snapshot from each central characters life. So, you know what’s coming. At least you do if you remember this fact. It threw me off a bit for a moment.┬á Then it made me really want to re-read the entire series again. I think this is one of those series that while it’s┬ágreat to read as they come out, reading them┬áall back to back┬áwhen the series concludes would be really impactful.┬á All in all, Kennedy does a great job of creating a┬ásmall twist in the story line that shows how the characters grow.
Is Sabrina as bad as you thought?
Loredana:┬áI utterly adore how this book is set up. ┬áLike you said, Tucker’s story is interdependent with everyone else’s. ┬áThe interesting part is even though Tucker is part of everyone else, he’s so completely different. ┬á ┬áBetween his choice of direction for the future, maturity, and calm demeanor, he’s already a man while the other guys are still on their journey. ┬áYes, Elle does an amazing job of making you fall in love with her characters. ┬áAfter you read each book, you struggled to figure out who you love more. ┬áIf only we could have them all mixed into one, we’d have the perfect book boyfriend!
Sabrina was nowhere near what I thought she was going to be based on Dean’s assessment. ┬áIn fact, I am a little peeved at Dean in retrospect because of his narrowmindedness in regards to her. ┬áHowever, she didn’t give him much of a fair shake, either.
Cyndi:┬áMy memory of Sabrina was exactly what all her co-eds thought, she is a bitch. What I found was that she is an incredibly smart and driven person, making her seem aloof but I admired her ambition. She wasn’t the catty girl I expected. Her reputation as an ice-queen is┬áwell deserved and as we got to know her, it was easy to see what she is so guarded.┬á The reality of her home situation explains her a lot.
Loredana:┬á Yes! ┬áShe was so much more than meets the eyes! ┬áHer ambition helped her pave the way. ┬áUnfortunately, she paid a bitter price in her devotion to bettering her life; people really didn’t get a chance to know the real Sabrina. ┬áFor this reason, I’m so glad Tucker is the tenderhearted, dirty-mouthed, smoking hotty who had more than enough alpha in him to take her on.
Cyndi: *chant*: Tucker, Tucker, Tucker
This young man almost stole the show in The Deal. His domesticity is simply charming. What I LOVE about Tucker is his easy going nature. He doesn’t come to the story with a ton of relationship hang-ups, which is good because Sabrina had more than enough for the two of them.┬á He’s just so solid – the epitome of a good man.┬á And his dirty talk, well I found that incredibly sexy. Like, off the charts hot!
Loredana:┬á Amen, sista…stole the words right out of my mouth. ┬áWe heart Tucker!
The impact of the┬álittle bundle of joy…
Cyndi:┬áI think Elle captured Sabrina as a young mom perfectly. She doesn’t seem very kid-centric┬á (no mention of babysitting etc.) and so I expected her to be a┬ábit lost. ┬áShe does take quite a few missteps with Tucker, pushing him away. ┬áHere is where she was infuriating.┬á┬áShe just can’t┬áallow herself to trust anyone.┬áThis is a bit┬áheartbreaking and I just wanted her to take a chance.Tucker has the patience of a saint. Once he commits, well he’s all in and he perseveres.
Loredana: You captured the situation perfectly.  I keep thinking that this bundle had to happen or Sabrina would never have become the woman she was supposed to and would never find the courage to open up to all the greatness that is Tucker.  I love how things got messy and real; there was no glossing over the small details which make a big impact. Elle put her characters in difficult and ugly situations to show us that we can grow and overcome, making it to the other side as better people.  For that reminder I thank you, Elle Kennedy!
