ÔÇ£At 18 I had pennies, but money didnÔÇÖt make me bold. At 19 I had dollars, but it didnÔÇÖt dull the pain of being sold. At 20 I had hundreds, but then I met him and was found. At 21 I had thousands, but all I wanted was to be bound.ÔÇØ
ÔÇ£At 23 I had dollars, but life changed and made me rich. At 25 I had hundreds, but it wasnÔÇÖt enough to stop my killing itch. At 27 I had thousands, but my reputation didnÔÇÖt set me free. At 29 I had millions, but I met her and could finally see.ÔÇØ
Tasmin was killed on her 18th birthday. She had everything planned out. A psychology degree, a mother who pushed her to greatness, and a future anyone would die for. But then her murderer saved her life, only to sell her into a totally different existence.
Elder went from penniless to stinking rich with one twist of fate. His lifetime of crime and shadows of thievery are behind him but no matter the power he now wields, itÔÇÖs not enough. He has an agenda to fulfill and he wonÔÇÖt stop until itÔÇÖs complete.
But then they meet.
A beaten slave and a richly dressed thief. Money is what guided their separate fates. Money is what brought them together. And money is ultimately what destroys them.
She was poor.
He was rich.
Togetherthey were bankrupt.

Meet Elder in PENNIES,
Pepper WintersÔÇÖ newest Dark Romance Series!
Reading a Pepper Winters story is like a personal challenge and gauge how dark of a read I can take. Pennies comes with a strong warning and I promise itÔÇÖs not an empty one. IÔÇÖve read a few books that were darker, but Pepper Winters is consistently at the top. ItÔÇÖs scary how she knows what buttons to push, and nudges the reader just out certain comfort zones. She balances taking a completely terrifying situation, and makes you feel like you ÔÇ£knowÔÇØ and ÔÇ£feel” what the character feels. She exposes what motivates them and just what a final trigger might be. In this case, itÔÇÖs Tasmin as she became Pimlico.
When we meet Tasmin, sheÔÇÖs recalling how she ended up a sexual slave on a remote Greek island. Soon, we learn her keeper, Alrik, is a sadistic bastard intent on making her existence hell on earth. When Elder Prest shows up as a part of a business deal, she is doomed. In little over 48 hours, everything changes. ThatÔÇÖs all I can say about the plot without giving anything away. For all the heinous things she goes through, sheÔÇÖs developed a unique coping mechanism – something that allows her to feel like she still has control. This tactic makes Pim a challenge and ultimately becomes a part of what may end her, and drives much of the storyline.
Elder is not a saviour, but we know he thinks of himself as a monster so we have to wonder just what heÔÇÖs about. ItÔÇÖs enough to make us doubt his intentions. But heÔÇÖs embodies that last shred of hope for Pim. And there is something he seeÔÇÖs in her that makes him believe she is strong and reminds him of himself a bit. He may end up being a hero that is nothing but lovable, but IÔÇÖll reserve judgement until we get to know him better.
When you read a Pepper Winters, you have to know yourself and any triggers about violence (brutal) and sexual violence you may have. Winters doesnÔÇÖt shy away from describing much of anything and I do wonder what, if anything gets edited out. SheÔÇÖs reminds us itÔÇÖs a fÔÇÖcked world. Pennies is a great start to a new series and ends on a cliffhanger with the story line set up for lots of action.
4.5 stars and recommendation.

I stalked forward.
My hand came up.
The urge to soothe her catapulted my fingers to her cheek. My skin erupted from her delicate heat. IÔÇÖd already had my single touch when IÔÇÖd petted her hair. I wasnÔÇÖt permitted a second.
But it didnÔÇÖt stop me.
One second, she stood close, arching her chin at the door.
The next, she was across the cage, flying into a stack of boxes that tumbled in a clatter of butcher knives, butter knives, and sharp forks.
Her eyes turned luminous in the gloom, locking on mine with rage.
IÔÇÖd forgotten myself by feeling sorry for this beaten wraith, but she hadnÔÇÖt forgotten her overwhelming hatred of men.
I didnÔÇÖt look away. But I didnÔÇÖt explain myself, either.
IÔÇÖd borrowed her for the night. If I wanted to touch her, I could. The fact that sheÔÇÖd leapt away meant I could report her to her master and have her punished.
Or you could punish her instead.
The distance between us grew thicker as we breathed fast.
I waitedwanting to know just how deep her education in pleasure flowed. Tearing her gaze from mine, she swallowed hard. Piece by piece, she hid her loathing, replacing it with reluctant acceptance.
Inching closer, her toes nudged aside sharp blades as she made her way to me and fell to her knees on the cold concrete.
Half of me jolted with insane lust. Most of me shied away with repulsion as her straggly hair covered her face but not before I saw the twisted disgust and echoing despair.
ÔÇ£Get up,ÔÇØ I murmured. Even though my voice was low, the cavern of the garage amplified it, layering it with bite.
Instantly, she swooped up. The crackle of her joints and misused cartilage in her bones sounded like tiny gunfire.
ÔÇ£DonÔÇÖt kneel. Not in here.ÔÇØ
