Baseball isnt supposed to be a game of life and death

The summer that Chase Stern entered my life, I was seventeen. The daughter of a legend, the Yankees were my family, their stadium my home, their dugout my workplace. My focus was on the game. Chase  he started out as a distraction. A distraction with sex appeal poured into every inch of his six foot frame. A distraction who played like a god and partied like a devil.

I tried to stay away. I couldnÔÇÖt.

Then, the team started losing.

Women started dying.

And everything in my world broke apart.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

With Alessandra Torre, IÔÇÖve come to expect the unexpected. Of this I mostly mean itÔÇÖs in how her stories make me feel all sorts of, well unexpected emotions. I get all caught up in her characters and then her skillful delivery of a twisty plot catches me off guard. SheÔÇÖs a master at this, at giving us erotic stories with twists and now sheÔÇÖs mastered the sports romance genre. With Torre I know IÔÇÖm going to get something different, something in the story is likely to shock me, and Torre does that in spades.

W come to know Tyler Rollins when we meet her at the age of seventeen. She’s on the road with the NY YankeeÔÇÖs and the daughter of the teams legendary pitcher Frank Rollins. Ty ( a girly tom-boy) was raised on baseball, raised by the YankeeÔÇÖs players and the organization. Her life is simply baseball. Her enthusiasm and knowledge is unique in a predominately male spots organization and sheÔÇÖs been accepted. So baseball has served to shape her and is her destiny. The coming of age piece has a lot to do with TyÔÇÖs growth. SheÔÇÖs not na├»ve exactly, but she has been sheltered by her place in the organization. But everything changes when Chase Stern his the YankeeÔÇÖs locker room.

The story is told in basically 2 parts and the pace and timeline is perfect. Nothing is rushed although they are both anxious to take things further. Over a few months, Ty and Chase build a friendship where a constant buzz of pheromones serve as an aphrodisiac. We also get the story from ChasesÔÇÖ point of view and he proves to be an exceptional specimen. But for all his swagger, he has never known romantic love and when the two get swept up by each other it’s just WOWZA!

Ty recognizes Chase from who he really is but their ÔÇ£togethernessÔÇØ wonÔÇÖt be supported, never mind it being tolerated. HeÔÇÖs so much deeper than what their initial encounters show. HeÔÇÖs got a life dreamed up by millions, but many regrets to go along with that. I really loved seeing his fragile side. They risk so much to be together, his place on the team and the love and respect she has from her father. Torre captures ChasesÔÇÖ real side through his explorations with Ty but nothing will change the forbidden romance aspect of the story, and it only intensifies.┬á ItÔÇÖs unfortunate that Ty isnÔÇÖt a little braver because Ty and ChaseÔÇÖs time together is meaningful, sensual and fun. But then…BAM! I never saw it coming, and that’s only the first half.

All through this story a mystery is built through snippets from a NY Times article that made me pause. So many puzzle pieces to put together and I began the game of trying to guess where the story was going. With Alessandra, I am never right (and I love being wrong). There are a few stunning revelations that blow Ty’s world a part; the suspense, the twists, and the forbidden sexual connection all add up to one great ending. Moonshot is an engrossing & entertaining read. It’s a wonderful mesh of genre’s giving us a twisty, coming of age sports romance that left me absolutely consumed. 5 Stars and recommendation!
