Taima, a.k.a. Tai, is the last person people come to for help. Hes the fuck upthe bad boythe guy that only looks out for himself.
Which couldnÔÇÖt be further from the truth.
HeÔÇÖs fought hard to become the man he is today. HeÔÇÖs a hero in the publicÔÇÖs eye. A firefighter that the young all the way to the old turn to for help at the lowest point in their lives.
What people donÔÇÖt know, though, is that heÔÇÖs no hero. HeÔÇÖs the reason his sister is dead, and heÔÇÖll spend the rest of his life trying to right that wrong.
Then one split second decision has him coming face to face with Mia Darling. The woman changes his life, making him reevaluate everything he thought he had figured out, and showing him the tenderness he never knew he needed.
Just like always, though, his luck runs out.
When the smoke settles, MiaÔÇÖs gone, and Tai realizes thereÔÇÖs no way he can live the rest of his life without her. HeÔÇÖll show her just how hard a bad boy will fight to get his woman back, and heÔÇÖs not opposed to fighting dirty.
When reading a Lani Lynn Vale book, we know what we getÔÇöa hot alpha men and a sweet, but feisty, heroine. Shock Advised is not any different. But unlike the other books, this one has some parts that were quite heartbreaking.
Shock Advised is Tai and MiaÔÇÖs story. We have met Tai before, since heÔÇÖs JackÔÇÖs brother, and IÔÇÖve been patiently waiting for him. As a firefighter and paramedic, Tai has seen a lot. And when he encounters Mia and sees what she is going through, he does everything in his power to helpÔÇösadly to no avail.
We meet Mia when she is going through the worst thing a parent can go through. In the aftermath, Mia is a shell of her former happy self. Going through the motions, sheÔÇÖs barely existing. After months of avoiding Tai, who tried to be her rock, she decides to start living again, beginning with apologizing to him.
When Tai and Mia finally get together, it is in true Lani Lynn Vale fashion. ItÔÇÖs hot and heavy, with some suspense thrown into the mix. This story, while containing the usual LLV tropes, tries to give us something more, something deeper. Sadly, it hasnÔÇÖt quite hit the mark for me. While the event that happens is heartbreaking and incredibly sad, I would have like to see both Mia and Tai react to what happened some more. I want to see them deal. It happens and then boom, itÔÇÖs two months later. I would have liked some more depth and character development in this instance.
Shock Advised is still an enjoyable story and everything I keep expecting from LLV.
