I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

In the ring, IÔÇÖm trained, powerful, and in control.
And thatÔÇÖs exactly how I built my legacy.
For years IÔÇÖve trained to fight, but no championship title in the world has prepared me for the most important fight of my life.
Out of the ring, IÔÇÖm untamed and reckless.
Which is why my wife of nine years has filed for divorce.
IÔÇÖm done with living up to the bad boy image my middleweight titles come with. Boxing is my life, but the money and the fame mean nothing to me without her by my side.
This fight is for the woman that I love.
And I canÔÇÖt lose.
I wonÔÇÖt lose.

Intriguing. Sexy. Cleverly written with a unique story. Emmy MontesÔÇÖ newest standalone second chance romance is all that, and more.

Julian and Natalia have been together for over a decade and married for most of them. High School sweethearts, they have thought nothing could be stronger than their love, nothing could destroy them. Sadly, what they didnÔÇÖt realize in their youthful naivet├® is that fame and fortune, something they both desire, will soon try to take it all away from them.

Julian is a professional boxing champion, who quickly rose to fame due to never losing a fight in all his years. However, over the last two years, fame, parties, and alcohol have presented a temptation that he was unable to resist. In the beginning, we learn that Julian has just been released from rehab, only to learn that his wife, Natalia, has left him. Teaching him the unfortunate lesson that ÔÇ£you donÔÇÖt know what you have until itÔÇÖs goneÔÇØ is all too true.

Natalia is an up and coming actress on the brink of a breakthrough. She has always supported Julian in everything he did, especially his boxing careerÔÇömaking many sacrifices. She has put up with rumors, incriminating picture fame brings, and the drug use for years. Until she reaches the point where she canÔÇÖt handle it anymore. Even though itÔÇÖs breaking her heartÔÇöshe still loves JulianÔÇöshe needs to do this for herself. What she hasn’t counted on though, is Julian fighting tooth and nails to win her back.

Natalia and Julian love each other immensely, but sometimes love just doesnÔÇÖt seem to be enough. Will they be able to move past their issues and find their way back to one another?

Ms. Montes has done an amazing job creating a unique and fascinating story about what happens after the couple finds their happily ever after. Both Natalia and Julian are very complex characters with their own dreams and aspirationsÔÇömaking them reliable and unique. Ms. Montes has created a deeply moving story about forgiveness, love, passion, the challenges of marriage, and what it takes to make it work. Showing us that sometimes one has to fight for love and that nothing worth having comes easy.

I’ve been a huge Montes fan since I read her first series, ÔÇ£DisastrousÔÇØ, and couldn’t wait to get my hands on this one. And I wasn’t disappointed. The Last Round is a moving read that will pull you in from the beginning. We donÔÇÖt get any unnecessary over the top drama, but a very believable story about the hardships of marriage. I definitely recommend this one for every lover of second chance romances.

FLASHBACK of Julian and Natalia (High School Years)

My smile brightened with each step. This should be fun. His head was bent low as his fork stabbed into a baked potato.

Placing my tray down, I took a seat across from him. ÔÇ£If that was a living being lying on your plate, IÔÇÖm sure youÔÇÖd be charged for aggravated assault or even attempted murder. What has that poor potato done to you?ÔÇØ

He lifted his head, eyes meeting mine with a raised brow. He seemed both amused and annoyed I interrupted his train of thought.

ÔÇ£I eat alone,ÔÇØ he said, eyes tensed. Then he shoved a fork full of the loaded starch into his mouth. His tongue darted out and wiped clean his perfect lips. I wonder what it would be like to kiss Julian Rios.

ÔÇ£So do I!ÔÇØ I sounded a bit too bubbly, even for myself, but with a wide grin, I nestled further into the seat, crossed my legs, and reached for my apple. ÔÇ£We can eat alone together.ÔÇØ

ÔÇ£Why do I have the feeling youÔÇÖre gonna make my life miserable?ÔÇØ

ÔÇ£But quite the contrary; by the time IÔÇÖm done with you, youÔÇÖre gonna want me part of your life every waking second.ÔÇØ

He scoffed. ÔÇ£I find that very difficult to believe.ÔÇØ

ÔÇ£Listen. IÔÇÖm a freshman. YouÔÇÖre a junior. We have two long years together. Unless you switch schools, IÔÇÖm all for bugging the hell out of you until you fall irresistibly in love with me.ÔÇØ

He pointed a plastic fork at me. ÔÇ£IÔÇÖve seen girls like you on The First 48. YouÔÇÖre one of those psycho obsessed chicks, right? IÔÇÖm gonna have to get a restraining order, arenÔÇÖt I?ÔÇØ

I never laughed so hard in my life and for a moment the cafeteria went quiet. Only the sound of my hooting bounced in the space. I froze and looked around along with Julian. I focused my gaze back on him, leaned in and whispered, ÔÇ£Everyone is staring at us.ÔÇØ

Julian moved in closer. ÔÇ£Because youÔÇÖve just crossed over dangerous grounds.ÔÇØ

Squinting, I mouthed, ÔÇ£You donÔÇÖt scare me.ÔÇØ

ÔÇ£You scare me.ÔÇØ

A soft grin touched my lips. ÔÇ£Good.ÔÇØ

Book Inspiration
My inspiration for the story: I always said I wanted to write about a married couple. I guess I can say the inspiration stems from my marriage. I met my husband when I was sixteen. We have been married for seven years, and although we are in a really good place in our relationship, it wasn’t always that way. But I feel the best part of a marriage is all the obstacles you face, yet through it all you stick by one another no matter how difficult it may be. And although in The Last Round the story is fiction, I believe a lot of females can relate to the struggle of how a marriage can fall apart, yet how easily you can rekindle and fall back in love.

About Emmy L. Montes

USA Today Bestselling Author, E.L. Montes (Emmy Luz Montes) lives in Pennsylvania with her husband, Alex, and their English Bulldog name Butters. She has a Bachelor of Science in Legal Studies.

Ms. Montes worked several years as a paralegal for a mid-size law firm. She had always loved the legal field and found it to be interesting. She more so "secretly" loved to write. Disastrous was her debut novel which was released October 2012. After the release of her second novel Ms. Montes took a huge leap, by leaving her full-time job to focus on her writing career. She has and continues to write characters with flaws. Ms. Montes said, ÔÇ£No one is perfect and neither are my characters. It makes the story line a bit more realistic, in my opinion. But I also feel no matter who you are or the life you have lived, everyone deserves someone to love and be loved. IÔÇÖm a hopeless romantic, and enjoy writing a story where my readers feel like theyÔÇÖre living and feeling every emotion.ÔÇØ
