I was told that dreams were our heartÔÇÖs desires. My nightmares, however, became my obsession.
His name is Michael Crist.
My boyfriendÔÇÖs older brother is like that scary movie that you peek through your hand to watch. He is handsome, strong, and completely terrifying. The star of his collegeÔÇÖs basketball team and now gone pro, heÔÇÖs more concerned with the dirt on his shoe than me.
But I noticed him.
I saw him. I heard him. The things that he did, and the deeds that he hidFor years, I bit my nails, unable to look away.
Now, IÔÇÖve graduated high school and moved on to college, but I havenÔÇÖt stopped watching Michael. HeÔÇÖs bad, and the dirt IÔÇÖve seen isnÔÇÖt content to stay in my head anymore.
Because heÔÇÖs finally noticed me.
Her name is Erika Fane, but everyone calls her Rika.
My brotherÔÇÖs girlfriend grew up hanging around my house and is always at our dinner table. She looks down when I enter a room and stills when I am close. I can always feel the fear rolling off of her, and while I havenÔÇÖt had her body, I know that I have her mind. ThatÔÇÖs all I really want anyway.
Until my brother leaves for the military, and I find Rika alone at college.
In my city.
The opportunity is too good to be true as well as the timing. Because you see, three years ago she put a few of my high school friends in prison, and now theyÔÇÖre out.
WeÔÇÖve waited. WeÔÇÖve been patient. And now every last one of her nightmares will come true.

***5+ Stars***

I’ve been corrupted and I can’t say I mind it. This book left my mind in a state of messed up chaos, my hormones raging. It made my ovaries explode and caused my heart to beat out of sync.

“Corrupt” by Penelope Douglas is unique. It’s dark, it’s f#?!&d up, it’s hot and a force to be reckoned with.
I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this baby and for a few minutes, I even contemplated quitting my job so that I could just continue reading.

Penelope Douglas delivered a story that reached inside my chest, ripped out my heart and did a little tap session on it. The brutal honesty, no holds barred approach made my skin tingle with excitement and anticipation.
It was a page turner if there ever was one. I couldn’t read it fast enough. Yet, at the same time I never wanted it to end.
It’s the kind of book that swallows you whole and when it spits you out, you’ll never be the same again.

Rika is a rich girl. A girl who has no real worries and everything is presented to her on a silver platter. She could lead a cozy, comfortable, yet empty life. It’s something she doesn’t want though. Everything inside of her craves excitement, danger and freedom. She wants to color outside the lines, refusing to one day become a Stepford wife.

And she gets her taste of that freedom on Devil’s Night three years ago when she spends her time with the Four Horsemen, let by Michael Crist.
It’s the first time she feels alive, accepted. Visible.
And it’s the first time she finally gets Michael’s attention after being in love with him for years. But that night isn’t without consequences.
Now three years later not only Michael, but the other Horsemen are in her life and the game they want to play might be more than Rika ever bargained for.

Michael has been waiting for this moment for three long years. Three years his friends spent behind bars, while he was wrecked by guilt and a sense of betrayal. Not one to follow anyone’s rules he’s always done what he wanted, aware he’ll never get his father’s approval anyway.
His devil-may-care attitude not only gives him power and charisma, but is also a way to keep others out, to not let them too close.
That’s even more important around Rika, who has always watched him like she can see inside of him.
The one person he allowed to play with the boys is the same person who betrayed them all.
Now all he wants is to make her pay and his friends are there to join in on the fun.

The suspense in this book was out of the world. The Four Horsemen were equal amounts imposing, attractive and volatile. At times their behavior made me break out in goose bumps. Other times I wanted nothing more than to get down and dirty with them.
The sexual tension throughout the book was downright electrifying. And the steam room scene – well, it might have gotten me a bit pregnant.
All four guys brought something different to the plate and all four had that special something.
The kind of something that makes the smartest woman stupid. And I don’t see a better reason than Michael, Damon, Kai and Will to become an idiot.

Wanting revenge on Rika they have quite a few things up their sleeve. And it’s so conniving, so well-though out that I know I would never want them as my enemy.
I was impressed how Rika managed to hold her own, proving she can play with the best of them.
But do they all know the rules to the game? Or are there more secrets, lies and manipulation than anyone expects?

Read this book. Seriously. That’s not a tip, not a suggestion. But more of an order. Because this is a must-read.

Not everything is as it seems. ┬áLittle rich girl who should have everything actually lives a lonely life.┬á She is dating one of the hottest guys in school, but she doesnÔÇÖt really want him.┬á She should be afraid of her boyfriendÔÇÖs brotherÔǪbut sheÔÇÖs not. Erika ÔÇ£RikaÔÇØ Fane is living a life that she doesnÔÇÖt want.┬á SheÔÇÖs tired of the superficially perfect life.┬á She had the opportunity to get corrupted one night long ago, and it tasted good.┬á She has never forgotten and is ready to sample something else.

Rika is thankfully not a stuck up twit even though she could have everything she ever wanted (besides Michael).┬á She has an adventuresome spirit.┬á Though this often leads her to rash and sometimes stupid decisions, the girl has balls.┬á Her gumption makes me like her.┬á She wants to play the leading lady in her own life and refuses to let others sideline herÔǪincluding her boyfriend Trevor.

And in ride the Four HorsemenÔǪMichael, Kai, Will and Damon.┬á They are the respected and feared foursomeÔǪeven after graduation.┬á And they have a plan for Rika.┬á Payback.┬á┬á Michael is a darkly complex man.┬á Watching the way his cunning mind works, his dark charisma and intensity are insanely attractive.┬á Buried way down deep is a passion.┬á Despite the plans they have for Rika, this passion floats to the surface.┬á He may hate what sheÔÇÖs done, but not all of him hates her.┬á He corrupted her one night long ago and exposed her wicked side.┬á What he didnÔÇÖt expect was to find a perfect match to his deviousness.

We only get a taste of the other four horsemen.┬á First blush?┬á Kai is my favorite (besides Michael).┬á Will is sweet, thought a bit unknown.┬á Damon?┬á Loose cannon.┬á I can only imagine what weÔÇÖll find out in his story.┬á Suffice to say if Penelope Douglas writes their stories, IÔÇÖll be reading them.

A quick thought on the title, Corrupt.┬á The first translation you see of this word is related to having or showing a willingness to act dishonestly in return for money or personal gain.┬á I donÔÇÖt think the horsemen ever acted dishonestly, but rather in a manner that could be viewed as a devious or wicked. ┬áRememberÔǪnot everything is as it seems.┬á Ponder that as you read the story.┬á You have to think on what exactly in corruptedÔǪRika, the antics of DevilÔÇÖs Night, the horsemen or something else all together.┬á Therein lays the hook of the story.

This is definitely a dark read with a few surprises and twists along the way.┬á ItÔÇÖs a journey, not just a read.┬á In classic Douglas storytelling fashion, she weaves a deep tale of complex characters.┬á You love and hate facets of them, which makes them all the more real.┬á ThereÔÇÖs no saccharine sweetness to this story, just a brutal intensity encouraging you to keep reading. ┬áSometimes you feel like you’re falling down a rabbit hole. ┬áYou fall into the story, you fall into the characters. ┬áYouÔÇÖll not regret reading this story.

5+ “Can I have both Michael AND Kai?” stars!

A secret pool hid behind the falls, and the water glowed with neon blue light, much like the light in MichaelÔÇÖs penthouse. Off to the right lay a bank, of sorts, where you could lie down, sit, or people who werenÔÇÖt swimming could walk in, stand, and see the beauty inside without getting wet.

The whole place was exactly like a cave. The rock walls and ceiling glittered with little white lights, probably to look like stars, and I couldnÔÇÖt help the little groan that escaped as I tensed my thighs. I was turned on.

I wasnÔÇÖt sure if it was just the place, the drinks, or Michael. My senses had been overwhelmed today.

I waded further in, enjoying the solace and the darkness, but then I saw Damon enter the cave and I stopped.

HeÔÇÖd walked straight through the falls, coming from the other side and was drenched. He pushed his wet, black hair over the top of his head, the wall of his chest, shoulders, and arms glistening with water. He mustÔÇÖve either brought swim shorts with him or borrowed some, but I immediately took a step back, seeing that he was coming straight for me.

ÔÇ£I wish I could say I wasnÔÇÖt used to that reaction from women,ÔÇØ he mused, noticing my retreat.

My hands fisted, and I licked my dry lips. ÔÇ£No, you donÔÇÖt,ÔÇØ I contended. ÔÇ£I think you like it.ÔÇØ

His lips curled, and I fought not to back away again. He wanted me to be scared. He counted on it.

ÔÇ£IÔÇÖm not scared of you.ÔÇØ I cocked my head, my heart racing despite my steel resolve.

The music blared outside, and between that and the waterfall, I doubt anyone would hear me if I screamed.

He stopped just in front of me, an inch between us. ÔÇ£Yeah, you are.ÔÇØ

And then he wrapped his arms around my waist like a steel band and lifted me off the ground.

I grunted, planting my hands on his shoulders and pushing away. ÔÇ£Damon.ÔÇØ

ÔÇ£I could tear you limb from limb,ÔÇØ he threatened, his breath falling across my face. ÔÇ£And I wouldnÔÇÖt even break a sweat.ÔÇØ

I pressed my hands into him, pushing harder and twisting my body left and then right. ÔÇ£Knock it off. Let me go.ÔÇØ

You know what I thought about in prison? He took hold of my hair at the back of my scalp, and I gasped as he pulled my neck back, holding me tight and still with his lips only an inch from mine. Youand our last night together, he finished.

He kissed me, soft but possessive, dragging my bottom lip out with his teeth. I jerked away, digging my nails into his upper arms as my heart hammered in my chest.

ÔÇ£Damon, fuck off,ÔÇØ I bit out.

But he tightened his fist in my hair, brushing my lips with his. ÔÇ£Every time I was alone, I stroked my cock, seeing you in my head and taking it like a good girl.ÔÇØ

I darted out my hand and took his neck in my fingers, squeezing as hard as I could and trying to push him away from my mouth.

He laughed as if he didnÔÇÖt notice. ÔÇ£You never told Michael what happened that night, did you?ÔÇØ

ÔÇ£How do you know I havenÔÇÖt?ÔÇØ I growled, baring my teeth.

He pushed his head in closer. ÔÇ£Because he wouldÔÇÖve killed me already.ÔÇØ

I clenched my fingers around his neck, digging in my nails. ÔÇ£Then maybe I will tell him,ÔÇØ I threatened.
