He Hurt me.
He broke me.
He almost destroyed me.
Nobody was ever going to do that to me again. I learnt to fight back. I made myself tougher, harder, stronger. I didn't need or want anyone.
Until Nate Masters.
Until he made me feel, want, need...
Then my carefully constructed world began falling apart around me. Secrets shattering my faith in those closest to me and with the nightmare from my past pushing it's way back into my present, I don't know how much strength I have left to fight with...
Could I trust him? Give someone the power to hurt me again...He's determined to break me free from behind my walls of self preservation
I'm just not sure I'm ready or willing to be Freed by Him...
Freed by Him, the debut novel by G.L. Chapple, is the first part of a duet in her ÔÇ£Fighting Free SeriesÔÇØ. ItÔÇÖs the story of overcoming your fears, letting go of your past, and start trusting again.
Lena Nichols is a young woman who went through hell, only to come out on the other side stronger. SheÔÇÖs quite badass, while still expressing a vulnerability. During the first few weeks at University, Lena experiences something horrible that sends her running back home. Deciding not to go back to University, she starts to work for her fatherÔÇÖs companyÔÇöworking her way up from the bottom. During a day of volunteering at the womanÔÇÖs shelter, she meets Nate Masters, a former soldier, turned police officer.
I like both characters, Lena and Nate. They have great chemistry and an attraction that is pretty hot. From the prologue, you know that Lena is not your average woman; she went through hell, which made her weary to trust. But Nate is determined to gain her trust and break down her walls. However, outside forces are trying to ruin what the two of them are building.
I do like Freed by Him. The plot is great and well-thought outÔÇöthe characters are likable and engaging. However, sadly, I found the writing somewhat lacking. The story has so much potential. While I wish the writing, as well as editing, would have been better, itÔÇÖs not to say I wonÔÇÖt read the next book in the series. I definitely will. The characters and plot have left me curious as to what will happen next.
A warning though, the book does ends in a cliffhanger.
