WARNING: If you have not read Smoldering, I highly recommend that you do. This novella takes place while Riley is deployed to Afghanistan.
Christmas is a time for family and friends. A time to be with those we love and cherish, the ones who make our heart beat. But when the love of your life is half way around the world, how do you let the spirit of the holidays lift you up and bring your cheer?
Kelsey and Riley spent more time apart then together early on in their relationship and now that it's repaired he's away for a whole different reason. Feeling the absence of Riley while he's deployed is taking a toll on Kelsey. She finds herself crying more often than not and distancing herself from the people who are there for her the most.
Riley has employed the help of some friends to make Kelsey's Christmas a special one. Leaving a series of notes and gifts behind to remind her of the good times they have shared so far, and the ones to come.
Can Kelsey handle one of the happiest holidays being away from the man who completes her in every way?
Will Kelsey scavenge for the strength she needs to take on the roll of a military girlfriend or will she crack under the pressure from the distance?
Only she knows how much she can take.

Taking a leap is scary.  Taking that leap by yourself is even scarier.  Finding the strength and courage to get to the other side is the line of demarcation. Kelsey and Riley have come a long way since their first meeting in the diner.  She finally moves into his house and begins to understand the emotional and mental toll of being the significant other of a deployed soldier.  As many do, she quickly retreats into herself and thinks of how hard it is to be left at home.

Riley. Super, amazing, thoughtful (and, yes, sexy) Riley continues to shower Kelsey with love and attention from halfway around the world.┬á She never had a supportive family, but he does his best to ensure she has a family of choice.┬á From finding sweet notes to a Christmas tree and hidden presents, Riley does his best to keep up KelseyÔÇÖs spirits.

What Kelsey does not see is that she is falling short of the mark for Riley.┬á The unknown and distance are scary.┬á It hurts and makes you lonely.┬á When your loved one is in dangerÔÇÖs way, you fear the worst.┬á However, what they need most is your strength, courage and belief to continue.┬á You never know what tomorrow holds so you have to make each shared second is cemented with unwavering love.

Aleman does a fabulous job taking us to the next step with Riley and Kelsey in this novella.  She uses the scenario of a deployment to have Riley and Kelsey get to know one another better and confirm their commitment, despite the distance.  When you are missing one of your senses, the remaining others strengthen to fill the gap.  They help you garner the strength and courage to make the scary leap to the other side.

Aleman reminds us that love is messy, sometimes hard, but worth the struggle with the right person.  Find out how Riley and Kelsey make things work.  Snuggle in for the holidays with this 5 star novella!
