Darcy Stone is game for anything ÔÇö except sexy Navy veteran and physical therapist A.J. Colten, the guy who'd rejected her when she'd needed him most. Now the shoe is on the other foot and he needs her to play nice and help him secure grants for his patients. Unfortunately, Darcy can't refuse. She needs the money to fund her passion project: rescuing S&R dogs and placing them with emotionally wounded soldiers.
A.J. admits it ÔÇö Darcy is irresistible. But he's already been battle-scarred by a strong-willed, vivacious, adventurous woman like Darcy, and he's not making the same mistake twiceÔÇöuntil he and Darcy are forced to fake a relationship. Growing closer than they'd ever imagined possible, Darcy and AJ have to ask themselves: how much between them is pretend? What's the real thing? And where does it go from here?
Still the One is the sixth installment in Jill Shalvis popular Animal Magnetism Series. IÔÇÖm a huge fan of Jill Shalvis, have been ever since I read her first Lucky Harbor novel, and I couldnÔÇÖt wait to read this one. SheÔÇÖs one of the few authors that I know without a doubt, IÔÇÖll enjoy whatever she writes. Her men are handsome, smart, and the typical alpha, while her women are cute, sexy, and hilarious. Darcy and AJ arenÔÇÖt any different.
Darcy is a woman who couldnÔÇÖt stay in one place for longer than a few month; she was adventurous, reckless, full of need to travel, and didnÔÇÖt think much about staying save. Growing up with diplomat parents and having no roots or a place to call home, is the only way of life she knows and can relate to. That is, until a tragic accident nearly took her life and severely injured her. The accident changes her. SheÔÇÖs not the reckless girl everyone knew, who did not care about her safety, anymore. Instead, sheÔÇÖs snarky, sarcastic, big-hearted, generous, and hilarious. Her witty comebacks, and the way she made fun of her friends and familyÔÇöin a loving way full of humorÔÇöis what made me adore her.
AJ is big, muscled, stoic, calm, and the typical uber-alpha. As former military turned physical therapist, he has helped many patients get back on their feet, sometimes quite literally. And one of those people is Darcy. HeÔÇÖs the only one in her life who doesnÔÇÖt baby her, but continuously pushes her to her limits and beyond. Yet, despite being the one whoÔÇÖs helping her become independent again, heÔÇÖs also the one who hurt her when she was the most vulnerable, by rejecting her.
Like any good Jill Shalvis novel, the chemistry between the characters is sizzling and tangible. Yet, due to trust issues on both sides, among other things, neither one of them is will to take the risk to explore their attraction. When AJ needs DarcyÔÇÖs help and they end up snowed in together, things come to a pretty damn hot climaxÔÇöpun intended. But how can two people, whoÔÇÖve been hurt by loved ones, build a relationship based on trust and friendship, instead of sex?
Still the One is a wonderfully written romance, that managed to suck me in from page one. I have fallen in love with Sunshine and its inhabitants all over again. I highly recommend Still the One for anyone who likes a sweet and light romance set in the midst of IdahoÔÇÖs wilderness.
