A childhood crush who moved away. An adult love that shattered her world. Twenty-seven year old Mackenzie Tillson hasnÔÇÖt been living for quite some time, rather, just existing. Life is passing her by and even with the love of her friends and family she canÔÇÖt quite seem to snap out of the disconnected bubble she has created around her. Moving day by day as a shell of a person who once knew what it meant to live
Until one day, the boy who first had her heart comes back. With a vengeance...Drew Dean has been apart from the girl he loved all of those years ago for far too long and now that fate has provided them with a second chance, he will make it clear to her that she is, and always has been the one for him. But what Drew discovers in the process, is Mackenzie may just end up being completely unreachable.
Is it possible to get through to someone who has no intentions of ever letting anyone in again? Can a person find their way through the darkness and emptiness they've created? For Mackenzie, trudging along in life alone is where she feels she deserves to be. But will she find it in her to fight and break the barrier of the internal distorted view she has of herself? Or will she let everyone and everything slip away?
As Mackenzie tries to piece together the remnants of her shattered existence, she inadvertently discovers life, love and loss are one in the same. A hopeful journey to be taken with an ending to fill the emptiness she's carried for too long.

Wow… I… just wow… I’m speechless… This debut novel is one of the strongest I’ve read in a very long time. It’s beautiful, fun, and devastating all wrapped up in an amazing story line.
I love Mackenzie! Many times, I get easily frustrated with main characters who let other people make decisions about their lives, but with her I never did. This has mostly to do with the fact that she wanted to get better and didn’t depend on her knight in shining armor to come around and safe her. She realizes that she has issues, she just needed to find her way on her own, in her own time. I loved this! She’s such a strong character. I have cried with her, have been devastated right alongside of her, have laughed, and have fallen in love with her. And her poems! Holy shit! They were amazing! As someone who isn’t a big fan of poems, Melissa, you made me love them! And changing my mind isn’t an easy thing to accomplish, everyone know I’m too stubborn for that. But these poems, they have enriched the story tremendously.
And the Dean Brothers are swoon-worthy! I truly love them, especially Jax. (I can’t wait for his story!) What I like most was the fact that Drew, as mean as it may sound, didn’t take over Kennie’s story and ended up overshadowing it. Further, I love that I wasn’t able to predict Drew’s secret. Most times it’s too easy to foresee what will happen, but with this story I sure as hell wasn’t able to. Which made me love the story even more.
Not only is the story well-thought out, the characters have a unique depth to them, but the writing was fantastic as well. The flow of it enthralled me and I wasn’t able to put the book down for one day straight.
I really love this book and I can’t wait for the next one in the series to be published.
